Theatre Intensives

This Intensive Program features theatre classes that focus on specific skills development- the perfect next step for a student’s theatre training.

At-home preparation and regular attendance is required, especially for students considering further study in Troupe programs. Students have the opportunity to perform and showcase during our annual Expressions Festival in the spring and Winter Shorts in December.

Theatre Intensive

Ages 9–16 | Levels 1, 2, & 3

Improve your rehearsal and performance skills. Students experiment with character portrayals, learning a variety of theatrical techniques and styles to help identify and portray emotions. At the end of the year, they perform a one-act play as a part of Expressions Festival in the Spring.

What you’ll learn:

• Theatre exercises
• Script work
• Character studies
• Laban, mime, mask, and breath work

Sketch Comedy & Improv Intensive

Ages 11-16 | Levels 1 & 2

Hone your creative thinking, team building, and communication skills. Students learn from industry professionals to develop their technique, discipline and artistry.

What you’ll learn:

• Improvisation and writing
• Viola Spolin’s “Improvisation for the Theatre”
• Del Close’s “Harold” format
• Long form, theatre sports, comedy-based improv (at higher levels)

Stagecraft Intensive

Ages 13-19

Blend creativity with technical skill to build on the Stagecraft General Program. Led by teachers and guest designers, students work directly on Arts Umbrella productions, learning how to work safely and collaboratively in a scene shop and backstage.

What you’ll learn:

• Creating props and costumes
• Designing sound and lights
• Building set pieces

Advanced Acting Styles

Ages 12-19

Get the most out of your rehearsals and bring your theatre training to the next level. Explore classic and contemporary acting styles and playwrights, developing the skills, confidence and experience needed to excel on stage no matter what style you encounter. Previous acting experience strongly suggested.
