Creative Journeys (Vancouver)

This program offers a field trip experience for Metro Vancouver elementary schools. This innovative program takes students on a journey through visual arts and theatre – exploring our world through an artistic lens. Designed for Grades 1–7, the program provides a full day of immersive activities that spark imagination, encourage collaboration, and nurture critical thinking. In the visual arts component, students experiment with oil pastels or watercolours, creating artworks they proudly bring back to school. In theatre sessions, they explore movement, character creation, and improvisation—developing confidence, creativity, and new ways of understanding the world around them.

Creative Journeys (Surrey)

This program is an interdisciplinary, virtual workshop where students blend visual arts and theatre skills to collaboratively create motion comics – illustrated stories brought to life with acting and sound. Working in groups, students participate in theatre exercises and activities to develop characters, settings, and narratives. They then learn the fundamentals of cartoon drawing and comic-making, applying these skills to produce a four or five panel comic. Using voice acting for dialogue, narration, and sound effects, students animate their stories, which are then compiled into a motion comic video by an Arts Umbrella technician. These videos are then sent to the teacher and can be shared with the students’ family and friends.
