Eco Theatre

At Arts Umbrella, we believe youth are the thought leaders and change-makers of the future. The Eco Theatre Project gives elementary school students across Metro Vancouver the opportunity to explore issues such as climate change, endangered species, and the overall health of our planet.

Over six weeks, students from two classes collaborate with Arts Umbrella instructors to create original scenes inspired by environmental issues that matter to them. The project culminates in a sharing at the Jack and Darlene Poole Theatre on Granville Island, where students present their work to friends, family, and classmates.

Building on these workshop themes, an environmentally focused play is selected for the second component of the program. In May, the play is brought to life by Arts Umbrella’s Pre-Professional Theatre Troupes as part of our Expressions Festival.
