SPLASH 2013 Art Auction & Gala
The 31st annual Art of Splash gala was a magical night, celebrating imagination and art without boundaries. Nearly 500 guests gathered to support the inspiring work of Arts Umbrella, raising more than $450,000 in net proceeds.
Arts Umbrella welcomed guests to an evening of art without boundaries at the stunningly transformed CBC Studios. With valet service courtesy of CMW Insurance, a red-carpet welcome was rolled out for a second year in the stunning venue where guests dazzled in their best black tie attire with, of course, a splash of color.
After receiving their Magic Moments welcome cocktail, guests were transported through a Park Royal elevator experience into a place where imagination lives. Arts Umbrella student dance and theatrical performances, sponsored by Wolrige Mahon LLP, were waiting to greet them when they arrived and to reminded guests why they were there.
Prior to the Live Auction, guests admired sleek Audi Canada cars alongside the beautiful donated art up for auction, while sipping on wine, whisky cocktails by Beam Global Canada, and delectable hors d'oeuvres by Culinary Capers Catering. The Silent Auction, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers, offered a diverse selection of art, along with a few exciting non-art items. This year, we also created the Arts Umbrella Student Art Gallery, showcasing the works of teen students in the Arts Umbrella Visual Arts Program.
A lively performance by the Arts Umbrella Dance Company set the stage for Brad and Jay Scott of Maynard's Industries to lead the crowd through an enthusiastic Live Auction. At the height of bidding, "Skirting The Edge II" sold for an impressive $20,000, making Ross Penhall's piece the highest-bid art piece at Splash for the second year in a row.
For many, the highlight of the night were the thousands raised in spontaneous pledges by generous guests, moved by the heart-warming address by of 15-year-old Maya-Roisin Slater, who truly connected the room to the impact their donations create. These pledges tipped the scales to our goal, leading Macquarie to contribute more than $60,000 in additional funds.
Buzzing after the auction, guests flocked to secure one of the limited tickets for the Virgin Atlantic Raffle Showcase Prize, and put their last minute bids in for the amazing Silent Auction prizes before emcees Johanna Wagstaffe and Rick Cluff of the CBC announced the lucky winners. Sweets compliments of Mink Chocolates and warm drinks by Nespresso kept the crowd energized as they danced at the after-party with DJ Aimee of GirlOnWax events, while others took advantage of the fun at the Vancouver Flipbook station courtesy of Rogers Group Financial.
All in all, a wonderful event experience that left guests, sponsors, and artists alike talking for weeks to come - and looking forward to the Splash 2014 experience...
