*NEW* Dance for Musical Theatre
A broad and progressive look at musical theatre dance styles for young actors of all abilities and experience levels. Students will develop and hone ballet and jazz technique while exploring classic and contemporary Broadway choreography to build their capacity as multi-disciplinary musical theatre performers. There is no uniform for this program, but participants should wear form-fitting, comfortable clothing in which they have a full range of motion. Dance shoes will be required.
*NEW* Intergenerational Choir
Open to students and caregivers ages 8+
It’s time to shake off worry and concern, come together as families in community, and sing! Welcome to our first intergenerational choir for young people and their caregivers—together. Arts Umbrella’s studios exceed industry standards for clean air, and our instructors are ready to guide singers of all levels through the joy of singing together. There will be public performances later in the year.
*NEW* Master Workshop Series
Presented in collaboration with The Arts Club, this seven class Series lets budding actors aged 13-18 hone their skills and learn from the industry’s best as they explore everything from puppetry to podcasting. Launching November 7, the Series begins with a FREE session on The Artistry of Choice. Join expert instructors Hila Graf and Paul Moniz de Sá to investigate the process behind the choices artists make on how to deliver a line, physically embody a character, and react to their partner on stage. Sessions run on Sundays, November to June, from 10am – 12pm at Arts Umbrella. Register now – there are limited spots available!
*NEW* Percussion Ensemble
Starting with the basic mechanics of hand drumming, students will build a strong sense of tempo and technique and develop their sense of ensemble music making. Participants will honour the foundations of western music by exploring sounds and perspectives from local Indigenous and world cultures, led by qualified instructors and guests connected to these communities. The ensemble will finish with a year-end concert in June.
