Afternoon Professional Training Program

Arts Umbrella Professional Training Program
About the Program

This advanced half-day program is for teens who are seriously considering a professional dance career. Students train five mornings or afternoons a week, up to 20 hours weekly. To complete their high school courses, students must either be home-schooled or have their high school provide a half-day academic program for them.

Our classes focus on the dancer as a whole, emphasizing physical, emotional, and intellectual development throughout the year. Dancers in the Professional Training Program work with renowned guest choreographers on performance opportunities throughout the dance season.

Experienced dance instructors and accomplished artists make up our wonderful faculty, who guide dancers throughout the year. Ballet and modern classes are accompanied by sought after dance accompanists to create a quality program for young dancers.

This advanced half-day program is for teens seriously considering a professional dance career. Students train five mornings or afternoons a week, up to 20 hours weekly. To complete their high school courses, students must either be home-schooled, or have their high school provide a half-day academic program for them. Magee Secondary and King George Secondary (for overflow) are two high schools that provide a half-day Sports and Arts program (SPARTS) administrated by Magee Secondary. SPARTS offers students in Academic grades 8-12 the opportunity to complete their academic requirements in preparation for secondary school graduation and post-secondary entrance, while allowing them to maintain a rigorous dance training schedule. However, there are other schools with alternative programs that can accommodate half-day schedules. Arts Umbrella’s half-day programs also accommodates schools with a non-rotating schedule (i.e. private schools).

Students wishing to enroll in the half-day program must attend the audition.

For more information on the SPARTS program, please attend an information session where the Vice Principal of Magee Secondary will speak to parents about the program. Contact dance@artsumbrella.com for information about this presentation.
