Hailey Fowler

Hailey is grateful to call Arts Umbrella her home on the unceded territories of the Musquem, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations. Hailey is a multi-facetted artist engaging with companies across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. From a young age, the stage called to Hailey.

Hailey is a proud alumnus of the pre-professional musical theatre program at Arts Umbrella. Upon graduating, she moved to Victoria to pursue her BFA in theatre at the University of Victoria. While at UVIC, she explored various mediums (devised theatre, site-specific, voice, Shakespeare, film, etc.), stagecraft, in addition to achieving a minor in Renaissance literature. Her driven mindset has taken her across the globe participating in intensives with the Globe Theatre and training with artists working on London’s West End. Outside the studio, she spends time in local classes to better her technique in addition to yoga, feeding her sweet tooth, and spending time by the water.

Hailey’s approach as a director/choreographer is to build intention behind everything – gestures, movement, and words. She encourages students’ to look past the surface layer of text and discover what is underneath. Hailey comes in with a plan but she allows space to let her students’ minds run free with creativity. She is a firm believer of building a safe space that invites exploration of endless possibilities and collaboration.
