Arts Umbrella invites you to join us for Strings of the Universe, a musical performance inspired by Debra Sparrow’s weaving, composed by Jack Campbell.

The event will begin with an interview with Debra and Jack, moderated by Arts Umbrella President & CEO, Paul Larocque.

About Debra Sparrow and Jack Campbell

Debra is an acclaimed weaver who has been weaving for more than 20 years and is deeply involved with the revival of Musqueam weaving. Her artwork can be seen across North America.

Jack is a renowned violinist, composer, and arts leader in our community (and beyond). As a composer, his music focuses on the unison between contemporary classical sound worlds and visual art, dance, and electronic and acoustic soundscapes.

About the musicians

To bring the music to life, three accomplished musicians will perform the work:

Jasper Wood, Violinist

Jasper has a flourishing reputation as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. He made his solo orchestral debut at age 13 with Symphony Nova Scotia. Learn more.

Dr. Joy Yeh, Harpist

Joy is the Professor and Chair of the Harp Division at the Vancouver Academy of Music and judges at international music competitions and festivals. Learn more.

Meaghan Williams, Double Bassist

Meaghan completed her undergraduate degree in performance at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Learn more.
