The Prospera Foundation is committed to providing young people with the opportunity to access arts education in the communities they live in. Our partnership supports two Arts Umbrella programs that provide young families and children facing geographical, cultural or financial barriers with access to the highest quality arts programming free of charge or at a reduced rate. Together we aim to provide a healthy and creative outlet for individuals that allow them to express their creativity in a safe and supportive environment.

Prospera Artful Afternoons

Visual Arts

Ages 13-19
Develop your skills and techniques in a student-driven class that is open to teens at all ability levels. You develop technical skills, personal forms of expression, critical thinking and conceptual awareness through drawing, painting and mixed media. This class is highly personalized and will be informed by the interests and creative approach of the students enrolled. Inspiration will be found within the students themselves as well as through exposure to modern and contemporary artists and works of art.  There may also be 1-2 field trips scheduled during the school year (at no cost to families).

Other Classes

Thanks to support from the Prospera Foundation, Arts Umbrella also delivers hundreds more hours of Artful Afternoon classes throughout the year. These Acting and Visual Arts classes for young people ages 9-12 are delivered using the same highly personalized model, with registration organized through the Surrey School District.

Movie-Making

Ages 13-19
There are so many art forms that go into creating a great film; sound; lights; cinematography; acting; and directing; but at its core, it all comes down to storytelling. Understanding how each art form adds its own artistic expression is key to creating a great film. This class is meant to expand our awareness of the different aspects of movie making and to learn how we, as actors, can explore ways of shifting, adjusting, and connecting to the work to share the story.
