Marta Robertson-Smyth

Marta, a BFA graduate of Mount Allison University, is a painter/sculptor who has been teaching and exhibiting in Vancouver for the past 30 years. Her works have been shown in galleries in Halifax, Winnipeg, Toronto, the West Indies and Vancouver. She describes her recent work as a sometimes empathetic, sometimes ironic look at the intersection of human and animal cultures.

Along with her in- studio painting and sculpting classes, Marta has taught for the Vancouver and West Vancouver School Boards, ArtsStarts in Schools, Learning through the Arts as well as Arts Umbrella. Her extensive teaching experience includes over 150 residences throughout the Lower Mainland.

Marta’s projects employ a variety of techniques and themes that integrate the sciences and humanities through art. She often relates myth and folklore to nature’s cycles, stimulating an empathy towards other species and an excitement about our evolving human story.
