September 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. For Arts Umbrella, this is an opportunity to honour survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration remains a vital component of the reconciliation process. Arts Umbrella believes as educators, we have a responsibility to share with our students the importance of this day.

Instead of closing our doors on September 30th, all Arts Umbrella students and their families are invited and encouraged to join us for a meaningful day of reflection and education. Activities and talks will be age-appropriate and led by Indigenous artists and knowledge keepers.

The day will feature workshops and lectures with acclaimed Indigenous artists such as Xwalacktun (Rick Harry), Joleen Mitton, and Charlene Vickers, as well as a demonstration in partnership with Bill Reid Gallery and book readings with authors Joseph A. Dandurand and Nicola I. Campbell.

For the second year, we are pleased to have Massy Books join us on site. They will have a number of books and texts for sale in our Third Floor Atrium.

We are also pleased to have Raven and Hummingbird Tea Co. on site, sharing tea and bannock with all our guests.
