Arts Umbrella Theatre & Music invites you to Come Together for a weekend of performances, highlighting brilliant work by our students, staff, and alumni. This year, we’ve got plenty to entertain, including a performance of “Guys and Dolls Jr.” performed by the Junior Musical Theatre Troupe, previews of many of our year-end shows, and a fundraiser featuring performances by AU staff and alumni.
We kick things off on Friday night with a fundraiser. Ever wonder what our staff get up to in their free time? It’s a talented bunch working at AU, and when they’re not bringing arts education to young people around Metro Vancouver, they’re playing music, singing songs, and gracing stages with all sorts of hidden skills. Come see our staff, alumni and Theatre Conservatory students shine. Proceeds from ticket sales get funelled back into our Music & Theatre programs to fund touring and year-end performances at Expressions Theatre Festival.
Satiate your sugar craving. Class performances and previews begin on Saturday, with instructors Matt Clark and Laura Jaczcz leading Theatre Intensive A and B, Cassandra Frederickson leading the Thursday Youth Musical Theatre Intensive, and Junior Theatre Troupe’s preview of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
Junior Musical Theatre Troupe and On Camera Intensive present “Guys and Dolls Jr.” In this adaptation of the Broadway hit, gambler Nathan Detroit tries to find the cash to set up a craps game in New York, while his girlfriend, Adelaide, laments their 14-year engagement. From Times Square to Havana, the ups and downs of this musical cast of characters will give audiences something to cheer for.
Saturday evening brings class performances by Youth Acting Intensive, led by instructor Karen Worrod, and Tuesday Youth Musical Theatre Intensive led by instructor Erika Babins. Then the Musical Theatre Troupe presents a preview of “Oklahoma”, Senior Theatre Troupe performs a preview of “The Phoenician Women”, and Laboratory Theatre Troupe shows a preview of “Outside In.”
Come Together closes a second showing of “Guys and Dolls Jr” performed by the Junior Musical Theatre Troupe, as well as class performances by Musical Theatre Intensives A and C, led by instructors Andy Toth and Cassandra Frederickson.
