Painting, Drawing & Printmaking

6-8 years
Experiment with techniques and materials, from oil pastel and tempera paints to printing inks and collage. Combine drawing, painting and carving to create unique works of art. Develop your own artistic expression by learning about artists and historical influences.

Painting & Drawing

9-12 years
Discover composition, design, colour theory and art history as you create art using charcoal, oil pastel, tempera, chalk, pen and ink. Develop visual perception and explore natural forms, abstract concepts and still life.

Drawing & Sketching — Techniques

9-12 years
Develop visual perception by studying perspective, scale and proportion. Create portraits, still-life and more by using your own thoughts and imagination to translate what you see into expressive drawings.

Painting & Drawing: Advanced

Prerequisite: Three sessions of Painting & Drawing. Students must have instructor approval to enroll in this class.

10-12 years
12-14 years
Continue to develop your painting and drawing skills, and draw inspiration from prominent artists and the natural world. Study the use of colour, line and form with acrylics, conté, ink and pastel.

Drawing & Painting I

13-18 years
Free your creativity by examining colour, form, composition, line and tone. Develop an understanding of historical and contemporary art. Use traditional and non-traditional drawing and painting materials to create realistic, abstract and expressive works.

Drawing & Painting II

Prerequisite: Drawing & Painting I or the equivalent

13-18 years
Continue to study line, tone and colour by using experimental and traditional techniques. Understand contemporary art issues and learn about career paths in the visual arts and how to build a portfolio for admission into post-secondary institutions.

Drawing & Sketching Techniques

13-18 years
This course provides the foundation for working from observation and the imagination. Develop techniques to portray depth, perspective and shading. Experiment with a variety of media, including charcoal, ink, oil and chalk pastels.

All spring session participants have an opportunity to exhibit their work in the year-end Expressions Festival. It is recommended that students wishing to participate in Expressions enroll for more than one session.
