Film Making

9-12 years
Aspiring film makers work as part of a production team to plan, write, produce and edit an original short film, studying techniques such as storyboarding, lighting and in-camera editing

Photography: Foundation

10-12 years
Develop your technical skills with a manual 35mm camera. New and returning students discover exciting historical processes including pinhole cameras, photograms, cyanotypes and hand colouring to broaden their understanding of the evolution of creating still images. The program includes supervised field trips on Granville Island.

Photography: Image Making

12-14 years
Begin with the basics of black-and-white photography, shooting with a 35mm manual camera. To understand the art behind photographic images, you will also learn to develop film and create prints in the darkroom, study lens choice, exposure, depth of field, composition, presentation and portfolio development.

Digital Photography NEW

12-14 years
Learn how to create, capture and manipulate digital images. Start with the basics of photography and how they translate into the digital realm. Then expand your creative visual expression by taking your digital images into the computer lab and exploring the basics of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Photography: Projects and Portfolio

Prerequisite: Completion of Photography: Themes and Processes (previously Advanced Photography I) or equivalent

13-18 years
Immerse yourself in the art of photography using black-and-white darkroom techniques, and digital and 35mm manual technologies. Study the genres of portraiture, landscape and still life. Expand on your creative visual expression, and experiment with new ideas by using exposure, shutter and aperture as your tools.

The Art of Film Making

13-18 years
Express your creative vision by producing digital video projects. Use storytelling, screen tests and inspiration from films to create dynamic cinematography. Work from simple projects to more sophisticated productions adding soundtracks and digital effects.
