Examine design and buildings from skyscrapers to stadiums, hospitals to hotels — each building type with its own design requirements. Through simple drawing and modeling techniques, develop knowledge and design skills with tools and materials such as cardboard, Styrofoam™ and wood. You will also learn about scale, proportion, volume, measurement and creative construction techniques.

Architecture: Creating Spaces
Prerequisite: Architecture: Fundamentals (recommended)
9-12 years
Architecture is the art of creating both interior and exterior spaces. Architects influence how our communities appear by designing buildings and planning cities. Through observation, drawing and model-making projects, explore the relationship between people, habitats and the environment. You will also consider the context in which a building will be built. Learn about scale, structure and composition principles.

Throughout this deeper more demanding course, expand your knowledge about architectural elements and principles of design. Stretch your abilities by using architectural concepts, such as qualities of light, space and materials, to resolve complex design issues.

Develop fashion design and illustration skills using a broad range of media and mark making techniques. Draw from a live model, design on the figure and explore various fashion illustration techniques.

Take art off the wall. Combine art and the human form by transforming your drawings and illustrations into one of a kind custom designs for clothing and accessories. Push the boundaries while experimenting with textiles, clay and paint.

Teen Fine Arts Studio
Prerequisite: Drawing & Painting I or equivalent
13-18 years
Study contemporary ideas and experimental techniques. Create in two and three-dimensions with painting, drawing, collage and sculpture. Initiate self-directed projects to build a portfolio for admission to post-secondary institutions or the Buschlen Mowatt Teen Scholarship Program.
