Invent images in a variety of media including coloured pencil, pastel, marker and paper cut-outs. Create funny faces, animals, monsters and comical backgrounds while learning the tricks of the cartooning trade.

Create stories with cartoons and experiment with movement, depth, colour, line and point of view. Explore character development and use mixed media to make exciting backgrounds, flip-books, shadows, textures, patterns and special effects.

Learn the basics of developing a story by bringing your own characters and drawings to life using flip-books, drawing on film, puppets, clay, cut-outs, and multi-plane animation.

13-18 years
Begin to study motion, working towards creating a one-minute film. Practice drawing on paper, clay modeling, pixilation, painting on glass, sand and cut-out techniques. Learn about plot development, story-boarding, character design and sound development.

Claymation

9-12 years
Take your animation skills to a new level with clay animation, one of the many forms of stop-motion animation. In Claymation you will use the malleable substance of Plasticine® to bring your characters and backgrounds to life.

Teen Cartooning for Animation & Comic Book Illustration

Prerequisite: Drawing & Sketching Techniques or Drawing and Painting, or equivalent

13-18 years
Invent characters while learning illustration techniques for portraying dynamic scenes. The media will include black ink, watercolour, acrylic paint, designer markers and pencil crayons. You will also examine composition, depth and expressiveness.
