ARTS UMBRELLA DANCE COMPANY

Classes run after school and on weekends.
For advanced dance students who wish to maintain a high level of physical training while adhering to a standard academic timetable. It is designed to develop technique, strength and artistic expression.
Classes include Ballet, Jazz, Cecchetti Exam Preparation, Pointe Work and Modern. Students are required to take 5 to 7 classes per week. Students wishing to pursue professional training may audition for the half-day Professional Program.
PRE-ELEMENTARY TO SENIOR LEVELS
Ages 11-18 (Grades 6-12)
The Professional Program is designed for the committed and talented dance student. Younger students are introduced to the rigour and physical demands of professional training. Higher levels are for advanced dancers seriously considering a professional dance career. This ballet-based program demands high levels of physical strength, technique and discipline.
To complete their high school courses, students are required to either be home-schooled, or attend King George Secondary or Magee Secondary's half-day Sports and Arts program (SPARTS). SPARTS offers students in Grades 8-12 the opportunity to complete their academic requirements in preparation for secondary school graduation and post-secondary entrance, while allowing them to maintain their rigorous dance training schedule.
Students wishing to enroll in the half-day program must attend the audition on January 22, 2012.
GRADUATE PROGRAM
Two year post-secondary program.
This program provides high-level dance training towards a professional career in dance. Applicants must be at an advanced Ballet level with a pre-professional background.
Students receive between 35-50 hours a week of dance instruction at Arts Umbrella. Daily classes include Ballet training, Pointe or Men's Work, Pas de Deux, Composition, Improvisation, Classical Variations, Cecchetti Exam Preparation, Body Conditioning, Health, Flamenco and Jazz & Modern techniques. The program also features residencies with renowned guest choreographers and rehearsals and performances with the Arts Umbrella Dance Company.
VANCOUVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE & ARTS UMBRELLA DANCE DIPLOMA PROGRAM

The unique Dance Diploma partnership between Arts Umbrella and Vancouver Community College (VCC) furthers the Graduate program with academic classes in arts and culture, rhythm training and professional business skills through VCC. After successful program completion, students earn a post-secondary diploma, granted under the authority of the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education.
ARTS UMBRELLA DANCE COMPANY
Ages 12+
Students of the Professional Program, as selected by the Artistic Director, Dance.
Established in 1985, the Arts Umbrella Dance Company provides young dancers with broad-based performance opportunities and technical training, in preparation for post-secondary dance education, or a career in a professional adult company. Past members of the Company have gone on to perform in companies around the world.
The Company includes senior and apprentice ensembles that train, rehearse, and perform new and innovative works by locally and internationally acclaimed guest choreographers. Company members perform in more than 15 shows a year, and have toured to Montreal, Toronto, New York, and most recently to Japan and Holland. The Company instills a sense of commitment and discipline and teaches good work habits.
Participation in the Company is supplemental to other program requirements, and requires full commitment from its members and their families. Company members must dedicate 6 to 10 hours per week to class and rehearsals, plus 4 to 10 hours per month to performances.
