Parent & Student Info

Please note that all general Arts Umbrella policies also apply to dance students.

Registration
Returning Arts Umbrella students have priority access to dance program classes. All additional spaces are available on a first come, first served basis.

Age Levels
To ensure that dance students get the most out of their experience at Arts Umbrella, please register in the appropriate age level.

Dress Code
Class attire is not included in registration or costume fees. All students are required to wear appropriate, specified dance attire at all times. See www.artsumbrella.com/programs/dance/info/dresscode for detailed information.

Student Commitment
Students are required to make a full year commitment as the classes are progressive and success depends on weekly development and assessment. Students who register in September are expected to remain in the program until June. All students (except those in Recreational classes) will complete their year of training with a recital performance at the Gateway Theatre.

Attendance & Punctuality
Students are expected to be on time for class so that they will be able to participate in the necessary warm-up and do not disrupt the other students. At the discretion of the instructor, students who arrive 10 or more minutes late may have to sit out and observe the class. Students who are late or absent from class three or more times without a valid explanation may be required to meet with the Artistic Director, and depending on the circumstances, students may be asked to leave the program with no refund of fees.

Class Change Policy
Student-initiated changes must be approved by the Registrar. A $25 administrative fee per change will apply. Faculty-initiated changes must be approved by the Artistic Director. No administrative fee will apply.

Registration Fees
Each dance program level has a base level fee which covers all classes that are required at that level. In addition, some levels offer optional classes, for which there are additional fees.

Professional Program Payment Policy
All dance registrants are required to pay a $100 non-refundable deposit. Fees are based on students attending the full program and will not be pro-rated for students wishing to take less than the full program.

Payment is due in full at time of registration. Alternative payment options are available; for information, please see the registrar.

Students will not be admitted to class until they are fully registered, and payment arrangements have been determined. Students with outstanding accounts will not be admitted to class.

Costume Fees
All students require costumes for classes that have a performance component. In Levels 1-7, and Boys Only 1-3 and Teen Ballet, students are required to pay a $95 fee per class to purchase their costumes. Students will keep these costumes after recital.

In the Comprehensive and Professional Training Programs, students pay a costume rental fee of $300 and do not keep their costumes.

Transportation Fee
Students in the half-day Professional Program are encouraged to take advantage of our transportation service between Arts Umbrella and Magee High School on weekdays. The fee for this service is $400 for the year.

Exam Fee
Students taking Cecchetti exams in the spring will need to pay an exam fee. The amount of the fee depends upon the Cecchetti grade of the exam.

Anatomy Colouring Book Fee
Students in the Professional Program, in the Elementary, Intermediate, Senior and Graduate levels are required to purchase a Human Anatomy Colouring Book for $30.

Dance Refund/Withdrawal Policies
Withdrawal requests must be forwarded in writing to the Registrar. If written notice of withdrawal is received by Arts Umbrella after the first week, but before October 5, Arts Umbrella will retain the $100 non-refundable deposit and 30% of the tuition fees. If written notice of withdrawal is received by Arts Umbrella after the 4th week and before December 1, Arts Umbrella will retain the $100 non-refundable deposit and 50% of the tuition fees. For any withdrawal after December 1, no refund will be issued.
