The Globe and Mail Invitational Golf Tournament | Past Events

Arts Umbrella gratefully acknowledges everyone who contributed to the 13th annual Globe and Mail Invitational on July 15, 2010. This truly great day on the greens raised over $100,000 in net proceeds for the Children’s Arts Umbrella Foundation, which will go a long way to help ensure a sustainable future for Arts Umbrella.

On July 15th, over 170 of Vancouver’s corporate leaders and golf enthusiasts came out to support the Arts Umbrella Foundation at the 13th Annual Globe and Mail Invitational at Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club. It was an absolutely perfect day for golf and QM/FM energized the light breakfast that included a choice of gourmet coffees. Players then enjoyed a variety of on-course snacks, refreshments and great take home items from many of our generous sponsors including sleeves of golf balls from McLean Budden and insulated lunch bags from Aurizon Mines. Throughout the day, players had a chance to compete to win Kooza tickets from Cirque du Soleil, a one ounce gold coin and gold bar from Aurizon and a variety of great prizes in The Globe and Mail Paper Toss. Golfers dreamed of exciting hole-in-one prizes including a Mercedes Benz GLK 350 courtesy of Mercedes Benz Canada and $15,000 cash courtesy of RBC.

For the more casual golfer, the Lawson Lundell Ultimate Academy Experience brought a whole new level to the golfing experience again this year! Players enjoyed tailored golf lessons in the morning, followed by 9 holes of golf at the Westwood Plateau Academy. Après golf, players were pampered with fabulous spa-inspired treatments by Discovery Spa, Emily Sarah Mobile Hair & Beauty and Blanche Macdonald Make-up, intrigued by tarot card readings, and tempted with a wine tasting courtesy of Robert Oatley Vineyards.

18-Hole and Academy players came together in the evening for a Mardi Gras themed reception where they were greeted with colorful strands of beads and ruby-red pomegranate martinis. Golfers compared stories from the course and mingled while enjoying the New Orleans jazz stylings of the Andrea Superstein Trio.

Event host CTV Weekend Sports Anchor Jason Pires welcomed guests to a sumptuous buffet dinner including wine from Robert Oatley Vineyards, followed by awards for skill contest winners and top teams, a fantastic silent auction and an energetic live auction conducted by Sam Scott of Maynards Industries. In addition to the other gifts they had received throughout the day, players left with a deluxe octopus wine opener and 3-month subscription courtesy of The Globe and Mail.

A big thank you once again to each and every supporter of the event this year. We look forward to hosting you again for The Globe and Mail Invitational 2011!
