It was a dream to instill in all children the love of the arts, inspiring them to become healthy, confident, productive, creative citizens. A dream to build a centre that would awaken the artistic potential of young people in a way that hadn't been done before. It was a dream to make a difference."
— Carol Henriquez, O.C., honorary chair of the Arts Umbrella board of directors, cofounder of Arts Umbrella
Since its first days more than 25 years ago, Arts Umbrella has been an organization with deep roots in the community. Not only has it served the community but it has in return been embraced and enriched by the enthusiastic involvement and generosity of the community it serves. The exuberant and active participation of the children, parents, volunteers, donors, supporters, instructors, staff and board is what makes Arts Umbrella the model organization it has become.
To celebrate this, and to further extend the Arts Umbrella community, Arts Umbrella proudly produces four major fundraising events annually. The events serve three main purposes: to raise funds to support the Arts Umbrella vision to inspire kids for life through the arts, to increase the profile of the Arts Umbrella programs in the community, and to introduce people to Arts Umbrella, its amazing signature events and the extensive volunteer opportunities.
Building a community organization is a very rewarding opportunity for anyone, because you see the very best in humankind, how we can come together to create something special and wonderful, and how generous people can be. So many people have built Arts Umbrella, instructors, supporters, donors, staff, volunteers...It has been an incredible journey...I'm so thrilled to see that Arts Umbrella strong and healthy and still growing."
— Carol Henriquez, O.C., honorary chair of the Arts Umbrella board of directors, cofounder of Arts Umbrella, speaking at September 2007 instructor development day
